Friends of Three Creeks Community Library was formed in 1999,
before the Branch was built. Friends members participated in a
design review committee providing input to the building
architect, Fletcher, Farr and Ayotte, and observing the
construction progress with great interest.
The Branch opened for business for the first time in January
2001. By then the Friends had already had at least two sales of
donated used books that were collected in
barrels placed at local business establishments. These initial
sales were done under tents in Fred Meyer's parking lot, raising
funds to support the coming programs
and the collection.
Now Friends contribute their time and their energy supporting
special entertainment and education programs at the Branch as
well as providing financial resources to purchase equipment,
books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, artwork, furniture, decorations,
etc., for the branch. We provide refreshments at some programs
too. When next visiting the Branch look for labels that indicate
that item was provided by the Friends of Three Creeks.
Volunteers are essential to our success. Friends members often
are requested to help at events. Volunteering is easy and very
much appreciated by the library staff.
Our principal money raising activity is selling used books that
have been donated to the Friends. Branch patrons generously
donate books by leaving them for us in two
barrels in the library foyer. Approximately every quarter
(usually the last Saturday of January, April, July, and October)
we will have a stock of 2000 to 5000 used books
which we offer first to the Branch for the collection, then to
Friends Members and, finally, to the public. The used books
sales are extremely popular and very rewarding.
The financial condition of the group is strong. Volunteers
are always being recruited to help organize and staff the book
sales.
T-shirts, book tote bags and coffee mugs with Three Creeks
Friends logos are also for sale, priced slightly above cost.
Benefits of being a member of Friends of Three Creeks, beside
supporting an exceptionally good branch library, is the
opportunity to buy at truly bargain prices (50
cents or a dollar) many fine books that are donated to us,
before the public is invited to do the same. Friends members
also are eligible for discounts on purchases at cooperating
local books stores.
Our annual dues are low. Students (under 18) $1.00, Seniors
$3.00, Individuals $5.00, Families $7.00, or Special Friend (any
amount of your choosing). Annual Memberships are renewable each
year on July 1. All money goes into supporting the library.
